Avett Brothers posters

Anyone who knows me knows that I ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN LOVE THE AVETT BROTHERS. So naturally, coming across this little page of their website today is cause for celebration.

Most of these are sold out, but they'll be posting more soon from their upcoming fall tour (no Texas dates. I know, I cried too even though I just saw them on Sept. 11)

Posters designed by Andrew Findley and Justin Helton.

Now, it looks like they are only making these in an edition of 20, so its gonna be a quick draw to snag one SO YOU BETTER NOT FREAKIN MESS WITH ME I WILL BE THE END OF YOU.

Have a lovely day and listen to your Avetts!

Exciting news!

This morning I got a call from my old creative director asking if I wanted to work with him and a web design and development firm called The Old State on designing the 2009 DSVC National Student Show website. My response? "Uh, YEAH!"

While we're on the topic of DSVC (the Dallas Society of Visual Communications) I thought I'd mention that the second monthly meeting of the year is this Wednesday, October 1st. The speaker will be Lawrence Azerrad who has done some pretty interesting work.

If you're interested in going let me know and perhaps we can meet up and go together!

time to catch up!

i have so many things i've wanted to post on for the past week that i don't know where to start! i've been finishing up a project for the job i just left and it has been a real beating, but is finally wrapping up. tomorrow starts my second week at my NEW job, which is wonderful by the way.

first on the list of several topics, last saturday marked the first slightly official meeting of a new quilt group i'm in with my vegan diner super owner friend, sara. it's been decided that our first quilt will be made of neckties and it's my job to make a brown square and a black and white square. i'm really excited about getting started. here's what i'm working with:

i'm thinking i'll maybe do this pattern for at least one of them

it's been awhile since i've pieced a square together, so i don't want to get myself in over my head. i'm really excited to see how it will all come together though. also on my list of sewing projects (that continues to grow and grow) is a t-shirt quilt made up of justin's and my old t-shirts. i also want to make an owl quilt. i did a google search for some block patterns and ended up finding these images which i thought were super cute. the blue baby quilt was made by a blogger i just came across who has some really great stuff up on her blog. photography, design, craftiness and other fun stuff. i'm sure it will become one that i check regularly.

just one more item before i go to bed. i wanted to post a picture of what i did with the illustrated alphabet cards i bought on etsy for baby camille.

the cards are mounted on a piece of brown art paper and in a frame i found at target. i'm really happy with how it turned out and am excited to start on her birth announcement soon!

next time i get a chance to blog i'll post pictures of the curtains my mom made for our apartment! they make it feel really home-y and warm. now it's time for me to go to sleep. hope everyone has a great monday!

BEARDSSSS!

My dear sweet husband has a beard. A growing beard. We really don't know when it will stop. And for some reason the beard has become quite a popular item in our culture in the past year or two. Men seem to become friends based only on the fact that each of them has "returned to his roots as a man" by letting the hair on his face grow freely. I'm always amazed at how many things i've found that are beard or facial hair related, so i've decided to share them here!

First, the reason why I get excited when I see beard-things.

This is Justin's groom's cake at our wedding. His younger brother and mom made it! The design is based on the t-shirt from Whiskerino 2005. I think it slightly confused some people, but was a big hit!

I got SUPER excited when I found the red card on our honeymoon in San Francisco. I'm sad to say I don't remember which little design shop we bought it at, but it was one of these two. I just bought the white card on Etsy from eggagogo. It's perfect and soooo true!

I bought this moustache key hook for my hairy faced man and it hangs proudly in our home. This picture from seller benfloeter is much cooler than a picture I would take of ours, so don't go thinking my house is this cool. It's close, but not quite.

And I haven't purchased this, but it might make a good present for us if you're ever looking! Another gem on Etsy from seller ashleyg. I really like all of her illustrations and will probably pick one up sooooon.

Just for cuteness, here's the hairiest member of our family, Ozzie.

That's all for beards today! If you ever see any beard things let me know! It's becoming a weird collection at our house, as you can see.

Ok, one more BABY thing

the first thing i saw when i got on etsy today was this super awesome wonderful HANDMADE baby banner, for only $18! having spent the last four years hand-cutting paper, i can tell you that this is a GREAT deal. if you know anyone with a new baby (they have boy versions, too) you should so order this! you can also get custom made ones with the baby's name like this one.

The Hurricane Poster Project

With Hurricane Ike quickly approaching the Texas coast, I thought it would be interesting to go back and look at some of the posters from the Hurricane Poster Project that was established after Katrina hit in 2005. Some really great posters came out of this terrible event. It's pretty wonderful to see how designers can use their talents to influence and contribute to our society rather than encourage people to spend money they don't have for things they don't need. Here are a few of my favorites.
